Hardy Bamboos
If you haven't been bitten by the bamboo bug yet, you will be after just browsing through Hardy Bamboos; Taming the Dragon, by Paul Whittaker (Timber Press, 2005; $39.95). It's authoritative yet friendly, and the author knows of what he speaks. Whittaker has been growing bamboos for many years and specializes in them at his plant nursery in the UK. Beautiful photos show off bamboo's many assets and, along with the detailed plant descriptions, can help you choose varieties to your liking. It's fascinating reading.
