Gardening with Children
Roots, Shoots, Buckets & Books: Gardening Together with Children, by Sharon Lovejoy (Workman Publishing Company, 1999; $13.95), offers a fun and informative introduction to the wonderful world of gardening with children. There are nine concepts for theme gardens, including ideas for a pizza garden, sunflower house, and moon garden. Lovejoy encourages budding green thumbs to experiment and explore, while providing useful guidelines and helpful information.
Seeds of Change Garden
The National Museum of Natural History offers Seeds of Change Garden, a Web site that focuses on both history and gardening for elementary-age children. The site includes a history of the new world, garden activities for all seasons, recipes, and links. There is also a practical guide aimed at adults for implementing an educational garden.
Also, the Family Herb Corner Web site from the Herb Society of America is full of ideas for theme gardens and has some great links.
