Invasives of New England
To learn more about plants to watch out for in our region, visit the Invasive Plant Atlas of New England (IPANE). For each plant listed you'll find multiple photos, description, habitat, as well as information about why it's a threat. You can report a sighting of an invasive plant and ask questions of the experts. IPANE is a joint effort by the University of Connecticut, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the New England Wildflower Society.

The Harmonious Garden
I can get bowled over by a individual plant, yet the interplay of that plant with its neighbors can often heighten the "wow" power. The Harmonious Garden, by Catherine Ziegler, (Timber Press, 1996; $24.95) can help gardeners expand the potential impact of plants by experimenting with color, form, and texture in plant arrangements. Keep your plant catalogs on hand as you read because you're sure to find some "must-have" combinations in the book.
