The Perennial Gardener's Design Primer
The shocking pink cover of The Perennial Gardener's Design Primer by Stephanie Cohen and Nancy Ondra (Storey Publishing, 2005; $24.95) is an eye-catcher, but it's the solid advice, luxurious photos, and detailed garden designs within that make this book a keeper. There's a wealth of background information, ideas for creating special effects, and step-by-step guides for creating a new bed and renovating an old garden. I especially enjoy the mix of plant photos, planting diagrams, and lovely watercolor illustrations of garden ideas.
