Master Watershed Steward Program
Modeled after volunteer master gardener programs, the Arizona Master Watershed Steward program will combine 50 hours of classroom instruction with 40 volunteer hours in the "protection, restoration, monitoring, and conservation of water and watersheds." Sponsored by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, the next class will run from January 20 to April 21. Registration is $125. For information or registration, contact Robert Emanuel at (520) 621-1268 or emanuel@cals.arizona.edu; or visit: http://ag.arizona.edu/watershedsteward/.

Clever Gardening Technique

Add Coffee Grounds to Your Compost Pile
Coffee grinds are a good source of nitrogen, and they decompose quickly because they are already small and moist! Starbucks (and probably other coffee shops as well) will save batches of used grounds for anyone who wants to pick them up. You also can sprinkle grounds around the base of plants or dig them into garden beds.
