Clever Gardening Technique

Attractive Protection for Shrubs
Instead of using wooden A-frames to protect shrubs from heavy snow, cover them with something that you'll enjoy looking at during the winter. Encircle a plant with tall, skinny bamboo poles and tie them together at the top like a tepee. Wrap white, cold-protection fabric around the poles, poking holes through the fabric to secure it with twine. Then, if there's an outdoor electrical outlet nearby, wind tiny, white lights around the fabric.

Botanical Prints
For the hard-to-please gardener on your shopping list this year, how about an antique botanical print? There are some beautiful choices on this Antique Botanical Prints site. The serious collector, however, may prefer something from Donald A. Heald Prints and Drawings, where some prints sell for well over a thousand dollars.
