The University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Garden Calendar is full of informational and entertaining articles and tips for the home gardener. It is fairly specific to zones 5 and 6, and can help you plan your garden season.

Fresh Fruit Tart
Crust Ingredients
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon sugar
pinch of salt
5 tablespoons unsalted butter cut in slices
1 egg yolk

Crust Preparation
Combine dry ingredients in food processor with steel blade and pulse to mix. Add butter and pulse until mixture becomes crumbly. With machine running, add egg yolk and process until mixture forms a ball. Press into 9-inch tart pan and bake at 400 degrees for ten minutes. Prick any air bubbles and then bake 15 more minutes at 350.

Filling Ingredients
1/2 cup cream cheese (4 oz.)
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
4 tablespoons powdered sugar

Filling Preparation
Blend ingredients and spread on cooled crust. Top with 2 cups sliced strawberries, peaches, blackberries, or other soft ripe fruit. Brush with 1/3 cup melted jelly or jam of your choice (currant and apricot are divine!). Chill an hour before serving.
