American Smoke Tree
American smoke tree (Cotinus obovatus) is a small (15-foot) shrub or small tree that's ideal for limited spaces and areas in the landscape that are protected from the hot afternoon sun. It gets its name from the purplish, cloud-like floral display that looks like smoke rising up out of the foliage. It prefers a well-drained soil and will tolerate even rocky sites.
