Making the Most of Clematis
Making the Most of Clematis, by Raymond J. Evison, (John Markham & Associates; 1995, $21.95) is not a new book, but it's still a classic. This is a wonderful survey of all types of clematis, the perfect companion to roses. The author is based in the United Kingdom, so some of his examples are not appropriate for our climate. But he gives clear hardiness limits and excellent information on cultivars and pruning. If nothing else, the photos are gorgeous.

Eat Your Blue Berries!
Great news for berry growers and consumers. According to James Joseph of the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, the anthocyanins that give blueberries, black raspberries, and blackberries their color not only protect against cancer, they also may help offset the brain slowdown from aging. Keep eating those dark blue berries!
