Take the Lawn Challenge!
Mid-August into September is prime lawn resuscitation season, so it's time to Take the Lawn Challenge. This Web site will tell you the how's and why's of lawn care before you head out to rent a core aerator, slit seeder, grass seed or sod, and what-have-you. The sections on "Thatch and Lawn Renovation", and "Seeding and Sodding" are especially timely. Since this material was developed for Illinois, please check with your own County Extension Service to find out which specific grass varieties grow best in your area. Apart from that, this excellent series of quick lessons and related (optional!) quizzes should be applicable through most of the mid-Atlantic region.
