It may be with this plant that the word "daisy" originated. It means "day's eye" and comes from Anglo-Saxon daeges ege. English Daisy folds up its rays at night and opens them again at dawn—the "eye of the day." This pretty flower is a common weed in lawns, especially in the cool moist region near the coast. A "double" form is planted as an ornamental.

Introduced from Europe, is now widely established and has become naturalized in the Pacific Northwest. I have several happy colonies coexisting in my front lawn. Mowing just seems to bring on more flowers. Named after the Belides, one of whom died in fear of Vertumnus, the god of spring, and sank to the earth in the form of a daisy. Mine range from white to hot pink.

Dug up a clump that grew where I didn't want it. First I put it in a tire and the rabbits loved it. I took out what survived and put it at the edge of my shade garden by the road. It gets afternoon sun as it is setting. My cat guards that area so the plants are safe. Now they are spreading.
