Metal Basket Container Planting

There are many metal objects available to use for container planting, such as tubs, troughs, cans, buckets, cups, bowls, etc. While browsing through an antique mall, I found a metal basket that I thought was quite distinctive. The question I asked myself was, "What do I do with it?" My answer: "Plant succulents, of course!" (260 words - Read the full article)

Chickens in the Vegetable Garden

My three hens live in my vegetable garden. They are wonderful garden helpers: scratching up weeds, patrolling for bugs, and fertilizing. And I get wonderful rich organic eggs! Here is how I get my girls to co-exist with my vegetables. (258 words - Read the full article)

Some new reviews from the Green Pages:

Receiving Ken's Leopard Lilies today was a great experience! The packaging was fabulous - one plant was even blooming! Not a single leaf had browned, and all jumped into my gardens with no problem. He's amazing!!

trialsz63 recommended Bob Scott Nursery and wrote:

I have purchased plants from Bob Scott Nursery. They're located just a few miles from me. They have a good selection of carefully grown and maintained plants for sale, a few shrubs, and sod too. Not only are they open for in-person shopping but they will also ship their plants to those who don't live nearby. The prices are a little higher here than I can find for similar plants locally, but here you will find those harder to find varieties and colors that the big box stores don't carry. This makes the slightly higher price worth it. On top of that, the plants are very healthy and well taken care of. They have a very good selection of daylilies and have been hybridizing them for over twenty years. This is a family owned and operated business. They're friendly and knowledgeable about everything they grow and sell here, and I recommend them to anyone looking to add healthy plants to the garden.

I am so mad that I can't support more tropical plants here in the piedmont of NC - zone 7a/7b Today I received a wonderfully packed box with leopard lilies (Blackberry Lily). A very fast ship from time payment submitted. The delivery company mangled the box, but it was so sturdily taped that it did not matter a bit. Inside the plants were fine. The moss was plenty damp and everything was well protected with bubble wrap, newspapers, and tape, all encased in plastic Ken even sent an information sheet with instructions for immediate and long-term care. It is clear that this grower/shipper takes great interest in customer satisfaction as well as pride in his product I do not think he is a good businessman because I received a GREAT many HEALTHY plants for a very small cost. What a deal!

robynanne recommended Victory Seed Company and wrote:

As a noob to gardening, I ordered several seeds from VSC. They were very helpful that spring in chatting with me about germination and even went so far as to send me out extra seeds (while I protested that they needed do so! LOL!).

csandt recommended Perfect Perennials Daylily Nursery (HardyHems.com) and wrote:

Perfect Perennials, owned by Stuart and Diane Kendig and located in York County, Pennsylvania, offers their own introductions and other interesting daylilies for sale on this website: http://www.kendigdaylilies.com The plants are meticulously maintained, the gardens in which they grow are beautiful, and the owners are knowledgeable, kind and generous. I am very pleased with the three cultivars I came home with today. The Kendigs ship daylilies but encourage people to pick up their purchases after the plants are potted and established. They have been hybridizing daylilies for 20 years and have developed a line of high-performing and cold-hardy red-edged daylilies. Stuart is interested in white daylilies and broken color stripes in daylilies.

LindaleeS recommended Valley of the Daylilies and wrote:

I have several of his flowers and also highly recommend him. I also bought plant markers from him, and my husband loves the daylily embroidered shirt that his wife makes.
