Cucumbers and watermelon

Cucumbers and watermelon

I had planted some transplants over a month ago. Everything else in the garden is thriving, but these two. They have some leaf damage (insects?) but mainly they have no new growth and seem "dry".

Any thoughts?

    Cucumbers and watermelons take a lot of water as they grow, especially once they set fruit. Another thought is that maybe they are growing at the bottom right now, roots, and not at the top.
