Black ants are eating my young cabbage plants
I noticed that my cabbages looked like they were knocked over by an animal. On closer inspection I noticed about 30 small black ants gnawing on the stem of each plant! My cabbages are being strangled! This is the 1st year I have planted cabbages, so I have never seen this before...Is this normal and how do I stop it?

Ants don't normally go after live plant tissue, but they are known to go after root maggots that might be in the area you observed the ants.
