cutting back forsythia

my forsythia shrub is about 3 years old/ it is in bloom now/ how far to I cut back and do i cut back the whole shrub ( all the canes) some have green leaves now / some of my wanes are about 6 ft high. would really appreciate some help . tx

    After blooms fade, cut back 1/3. Remove all dead branches. Remove older thicker ones if a less dense plant is desired.

    Forsythias will tolerate severe pruning - down to 1-2 feet if you desire, so prune to the desired size.
