Magnesium Sulfate

I purchased Epsom Salts for a body soak and was surprised to see listed among its uses "nutrient for vigorous lawns and gardens!" No instructions for this however. Can anyone tell me of lawns and gardens which need this nutrient and how to use it for that purpose?
