-This is the third miniature rose I have bought for my window sill, they immediatly start dropping their buds, within a week, I have house insect spray which doesn't help, maybe the warmth from the window, it faces south has the bugs already there or in the soil and they emerge? It was so beautiful, I took it outside this morning. BooHoo!
Junie: Sorry to hear about the demise of one of your favorite plants!!
These plants like a bright position...but at the same time a *cool* position...it's difficult to balance both, I know. Likely it was too warm, and possibly was prey of spider mites...they do just appear from "nowhere", truly. They often come in on other plants, and I've heard tell that their eggs can live for weeks at a time on a windowsill. I think you did the right thing by putting it outside at this time, where it's cooler. Maybe the next time you get one, you could find a window that's bright yet cool, such as an eastern exposure? AS far as combatting spider mites, you have to get to them early. More often than not, spraying with a solution of liquid dish soap (non detergent if possible) mixed with water, and repeated regularly keeps them under control. I know there is a systemic insecticide available for roses, if that interests you. Be certain to follow it's manufacturers instructions, as these type of products can be harmful to your plants *and you* if not used as directed.
