start an avacado plant

I wwould like to grow an avacado plant
but i can't seem to germinate the seed.
please help! i heard they make beautiful
house plants.

      i have just started an avocado seed i used a potter i made out of a gallon water jug i hope this work out alright wish me luck i will let you know if anything happens...oh and i added half of a ziplock bag over it to create a kind of green house affect (yes i am a cheap-o)
