Grass Problem
I need help with getting grass to grow in my front yard. Currently, my yard is covered with some type of moss. The area that is mossy is completely shaded and the soil is very sandy. What can I do to get rid of the moss and get grass to grow? How soon can I begin working on the lawn? Do I need to wait until there is no longer a possibility of a freeze or can I begin something earlier?
Thanks, Lori

All grasses need at least some sun to grow well and there are none that will grow in full shade. There are some fescues that do better in partial shade than others (fescues that is) but these also won't stand much traffic. There is now a whole new interest in mosses and you may be on the cutting edge of that interest with moss. Fine Gardening No. 83 has an article about the care of moss as a ground cover in place of grass.
