Giant sunflowers
I have never tried this nor have I ever heard of anyone doing this, so I really can't answer that question. The easiest thing to do is to purchase "giant" growing sunflowers which will grow tall anyway.

Some sunflowers will grow as low as 1-2ft and some varieties will get as tall as 12ft or more. Just look on the back of the seed packet and it will tell you how tall they are supposed to get. Good luck! -

-Iam looking for tips on how to grow really tall sunflowers. Is there a way to stop a sunflower from heading out, so that it will keep growing?
I think your best bet is to stick with genetics, that is, plant a variety known to grow tall. Most famous of this is 'Russian Mammoth'. Sow seeds where you want them to grow, in rich, amended soil. I don't know about forcing them to grow taller.
