Grow plants in artificial soil No Mold
I found a great new way for people with allergies to grow house plants.

Its non-toxic, makes plants easier to take care of. I transplanted some of my plants recently and they are doing great.

Plants and allergies
Getting rid of plants because of allergy problems is out-dated advice. In fact, more and more hospitals are using plants because they are effective air cleaners. Very few indoor plants have fungal spores or molds. These allergens are far more common outside. Most quality indoor nurseries now use sterile potting mixes and you should also if you are concerned about possible mold allergens. There are fungicides available, but I believe they are a greater hazard to your health than the plants.

-i have allergy to common molds and was told to get rid of all houseplants. is there some sort of fungicide, moldicide treatment i can safely use on my houseplants to reduce their mold burden so i don't have to toss them all or adopt them out? i read a posting elsewhere suggesting Athlete's foot powder/spray, any other suggestions? -

Jeff:
I know of an african violet collector who uses lysol and swears that it works and doesn't harm the violets (do avoid the leaves and flowers if you spray the soil) Others have had success with alcohol in a spray bottle, and chamomile tea! There are commercially available fungicides that should serve the purpose, I know that Gardens Alive carries it...I think they have a website. I think that if your plants are potted in a good quality soil and are well cared for, that you shouldn't see any mold problems.
