What to grow that deer don't like???

My brother lives in Mass. He's going to have to replace the shrubbery that surrounds his house because the deer have nibbled everything they could get their teeth into. Now we love deer but there must be something that looks presentable to plant around ones house that they will leave alone!?!? Help!!!
