Daffodils

I am growing daffodils in a pot. Leaves are growing beautifully. I think they are about to bloom -- there is a long stem coming up in the middle of the leaves. However, the end of these stems are turning brown and papery looking. Is there something wrong with my daffodils or is this the way the blooms pop through the stems? Thank you -- I'm a first-time daffodil grower.
