Suggestions on tree type to plant
Posted by sue t from 6 on 2001-03-27 17:30:41

I live in zone 6, & need to plant a tree to hide a neighbor's area, so the tree needs to be:
1-Fast grower 2-Medium to Dense shade
3-Soil is not the best
4-Need it to be wider than it is tall (30 ft wide/ 30 ft high).
Any suggestions for tree types ????

  • How about a mixed border?

Sue, do you have room for a mix of plants? How long/wide is the area? It is very natural looking and more effective ( I think) to plant an evergreen or two, along with a medium deciduous tree, and then some shrubs and grasses in front of that. It works well if you have some room. Do you?

Lynn, I have evergreens planted that are approx 25ft away from the area that I want to plant, and also there are azaleas & rhodos planted also. I need a replacement tree that will fit in a space about 5ft away from the shrubs but will be far enough away from the evergreens. I was looking at Japanese snowbells, Cornelian cherry , or thundercloud plum. Any suggestions?
