garden plant markers

I am looking for a cheap, cute idea for plant markers in our garden. Our garden is rather larger, 170 x 150 feet, and serves as an education source for the community as well as a education/food source for volunteers. I tried vinyl blinds last year, but the birds took them away!! I want it crafty/creative/unique but cheap -- something we could use to recycle. Any suggestions? Our garden is organic.
