Where to put the garden?

Hmmm, so I have plotted out a 10x10 garden on graph paper for the center of my backyard which will face east. I have a bed on the south side of my yard that is about 20 feet long by 3 feet wide and runs right along the house. I don't know what the previous owner had in it. I think the size would be fine for what i want to grow but will it work being right against the house like that? And should I be concerend with what would have been grown there 2+ years ago? I am new at the gadening and hoping to preserve a bit for winter to ut back on grocery cost. Do you think this will be enough room for a family of 2 to do that? Thanks!
