Tomato Mystery

I have a tomato that I bought out of the grocery store -- a vine ripe tomato that has a tomato plants growing from it. Other than some wiltering on the skin and a small black spot, there no other sign of decading. I grew up gardening vegetable and have never seen this before. If anyone else seen this happen before please chime in.
