Road side planting

I live on a spur road in the Catskills and I want to put decorative plants between the snow posts on the road edge of the property. I need suggestions for plants that will survive both getting masses of snow plowed on top over the winter and the salt that snow often carries. So far day lilies have worked, because they die back completely in the fall and seem to be tough enough to bounce back every spring. Any other options?
