My crape myrtle is falling...

I have a small garden and planted a dwarf crape myrtle in spring of 2008. It stood 3 ft tall. One season later and the dwarf crape myrtle is 5-6 feet tall.
We have had a very rainy season and at times the storms are severe. My crape myrtle is not withstanding the downpours. Did we not plant it deep enough? Should we tie it up?
