companion planting for melons?
I seem to have no problems with cucumber beetles getting into my cantaloupe when I plant tomato right underneath of them. I discovered this by accident a few years ago when I used home compost that contained tomato seeds, and they sprouted like grass under the melon plants. The next year, I planted tomatoes with my melons. Still no beetles.
In previous years, beetles were such a huge problem that I could never get a melon harvest. So, this is very exciting! This year, I will try spreading tomato leaves or sprinkling a solution with ground up tomato leaf on the ground around the melons and see if it has the same affect. Still trying to determine if this is a real effect or just a coincidence. Has anyone else had the same experience?
