Weed killer and vegetable garden

My landscaper applied weed killer to my lawn this week and also applied to the area where I plant my tomatoes. There are no plants there yet but now I'm wondering if that area will ever be safe to use for planting again, especially this year. Am I out of luck with my tomatoes this year? Any advice would be most appreciated.
