Hardy Banana, Dead?

Hardy Banana, Dead?

It’s now May and my hardy Banana has not sprouted after our hard Winter. How long should I wait before I pronounce death. I have looked a bit below to soil and I don’t see anything green sprouting so I am losing hope. Is there anything else that I can do see that it's still living?
