Hot peppers develop that heat when grown in soil that is not as rich and moist as other plants prefer. If your peppers are not developing that hot sensation check your soil.

    That is great information.
    Another thing to know is when cleaning the seeds out of the jalapeno is to leave the white portion inside. There are yellowish lines that contain the heat. For years I had cut it all out and had little heat, then a resturant owner showed me and life has been spicier ever since.(:
