Squash

WE bought a house with a garden space. The lady we bought from had vegetables. We planted gourds for my wifes art work, but we have some kind of squash growing. They are much like an acorn squash, but are yellow. We have not cut one open yet. Just wondering if anyone can tell us what kind they are?
