Japanese Maples

As a native Californian, I miss the Japanese Maples of my youth. What varieties are suitable for alkaline rain, snow, soil, and -20 below in Casper? I want the dwarf varieties to 10 ft. tall. Of course I would fill any planting hole suitably with sand and compost.
