ponytail palm too tall

ponytail palm too tall

I inherited a ponytail palm around twenty years ago. At the time it was around 4.5 to 5 feet tall now it is around 6.5 to 7 feet tall. It is starting to bend over because it is so close to the roof of the greenhouse. I wanted to know if it would kill it if I cut the head off and shorten it by 2 or 3 feet. Right now it has a beautiful base which is around 2.5 feet round and I would hate to loose it. Second if I trim the fronds back on the crown could I start a new plant from it.

    I just want to know what to do with the plant. the tips of the leaves are turning brown and drying. Am I watering to much, too little? Do I cut them off? Does someone know how to care for these things?

    I too have a out-of-control ponytail palm. I finally placed it in the front hallway that has 14 foot ceilings. Don't really know what will happen if I cut it. I'm afraid to do so because they are such slow growers. It may be years before it actually gets a new growth of fronds!
