Schefflera sap problem

My schefflera seems to be growing very well and happily in the spot it is in by a large window. Now,however,it is beginning to have sap-like droplets forming on the back of leaves and stems. Every now and then a leaf cluster will turn yellow and sometime hit the carpet before I get in to pick it off. This leaves this gooey stuff on the carpet. Is this a problem for the plant and if I can get this taken care of will it stop my yellowing leaf problem also??THX
