Azalea Houseplant

I have a little azalea houseplant. When I got it, it had full leaves and healthy pink and white blossoms. The garden centre where I bought it said it needed to always have moist soil. I cared for it exactly as told. But then its leaves dried out and fell off. Now it is completely bare. Do azaleas do this? Should I trim it? I would really appreciate any and all advice!
