my in-laws and came across a plant
which bordered a golf course, which no
one seemed to be able to identify. It
was approximately 18 to 24 inches tall,
has long, thin, dark green, spikey
leaves, dark purple/brown stems, and
small (1-2 inch) round purple flowers.
It was somewhat shrub-like in
appearance.
Does this description ring a bell with
anyone? I would like to find out more
about this plant, because it gave a
nice variety of colors and seemed to
grow well, even in the dry conditions
they are having down there.

identity fo plant
I do not know what the botanical name is...but my guess is you were looking at a Mexican Petunia....they are not native to florida but once they get planted somewhere the become somewhat invasive and need very little to keep them popping up and spreading here and there. I have them in my yard but I keep a close watch on how they are spreading.
