told if we get low-e coating on the
windows all my houseplants would die.
Does anyone know if this is true? Does
anyone have low-e glass & houseplants?

Leslie: This one's definitely 'way
'bove my head! But...the seller's of
the windows should have spec sheets on
them....somewhere on there I would
think they'd list the amount/number of
footcandles of light that these new
windows emit....most houseplant books
give recommedations of the
amount/number of footcandles of light
recommended for 'most' plants. This
might be the long way to find out, but
at least a way! If you can't find a
book with the recommended footcandle
info, I have one, and would be happy to
quote it for you!-

Thanks for the info! I have several
books that I saw the footcandle info
in. I will check with window dealer and
see if they have the specs for that. I
sure don't want all my plants to die.-

either. However, I do know that the
issue with coated windows is not so
much light intensity (measured in
footcandles), but the portion of the
light spectrum that is blocked out by
the coating. There are certain portions
of the light spectrum that are critical
for healthy plant growth. If they are
blocked, then your plants will struggle
regardless of the intensity. Check with
the manufacturer about this. Good luck.
