Original Message spiderwort/tradescantia
This is spiderwort, also known as tradescantia. It is a perennial and easily spreads by reseeding. It blooms late spring/early summer. Mine generally go dormant in the hot humid days of summer. I may just have them planted in too dry a location. Anyway, I cut them back to the ground after blooming and get a second growth, although less lush, later on after summer temps cool off a bit.
