At the beginning of summer a friend sent me a photo on social media of a small fairy garden in a broken terra cotta pot and thought we should make one. Great Idea, I thought: I have a pile of broken pots I've never been able to throw away, and now I can use them! Never one to step lightly into the water of a new project, especially if it involves plants too, I went and bought a few of those inexpensive little unfinished wooden bird houses filling the bins of my local craft store and spent weeks making fairy houses, gnome homes, and hobbit huts.
Paints and wood stains, silicone and sticks, colored glass bits and colored sand, pine cones and oak "logs" all started to take up lots of real estate on the floor of my bedroom for the summer season. I just knew when I had "enough" of the houses I would be able to finally use all those miniatures I had been collecting for years, and those little plants I've been cultivating since spring.
Today was the day: Time to put it together!
I started this one, but didn't like the way it was coming out, so I took it apart and began again (DON'T be afraid!):
All in all, I think they came out pretty well for a first attempt.
