By oregonmarty on May 30, 2024 8:43 PM, concerning Glasshouse Works: I have purchased several unusual or hard-to-find plants from Glasshouse Works, primarily for a beautiful antique terrarium. I can spend hour after hour navigating through their plant lists. Some staff member used to write very humorous descriptions of their large collection of coleus offerings (ala Plant Delights humor). They are dedicated to the serious plant collector, and one must have patience in waiting for a plant to become available. It's worth the wait! |
By oregonmarty on May 30, 2024 7:55 PM, concerning Netherland Bulb Company: I have purchased bulbs and bare root perennials from Netherland Bulb Co. for ten years. All the bubs, corms, and rhizomes I've received have been significantly larger and healthier than I have ever purchased elsewhere. Their customer service is friendly and helpful, even though the company is geared toward large wholesale orders, and I buy minimum amounts. I am particularly happy with all the lilies I have received over the years, as the bulbs are noticeably large and robust. The colocasia esculenta I purchased years ago were just HUGE and have multiplied to form the backbone of my tropical garden. Since you are purchasing larger amounts at wholesale, the cost per item is very low. I look forward to receiving their attractive catalogue each season, and daydreaming about creating another new garden bed. |
By drygaard on May 19, 2024 6:09 PM, concerning Hartmann's Plant Company: Living within 150 miles of Hartmann's, I have driven to the nursery twice to purchase blueberry plants. I have been given a tour of their impressive operation by Mr Harrtmann himself. They are totally organic. |
By Jerrytheplater on May 13, 2024 9:35 PM, concerning Sarracenia Northwest: I have purchased from SNW at least three times and each time I have been more than pleased. I even won a $100.00 credit in their monthly plant giveaway! It really is worth entering each month. They also have many YouTube videos for growing tips. I can highly recommend them. |
By Jerrytheplater on May 13, 2024 9:31 PM, concerning Carnivorous Plant Nursery: I first met the owner, Michael Szesze, at a Mid-Atlantic Carnivorous Plant Society meeting. He is a really knowledgeable grower of Carnivorous Plants. He will bring plants to meetings if arrangements are made ahead of the meeting. By this means I have gotten some plants, as well as ordering for mail delivery from the website. He packages his plants so that they arrive in perfect condition. I can heartily recommend purchasing from CPN. I have not visited personally yet, but I hope to soon. You must make an appointment for a visit in advance. Please respect this. |
By bloominholes2fill on May 10, 2024 9:59 AM, concerning White Flower Farm: I ordered a 'Starry Starry Night' hardy hibiscus in Fall of 2023. They sent a beautiful specimen with three branches already leafed out, and three gorgeous flowers bloomed before frost! This plant was about 30 inches tall, and it delivered in a one gallon pot, packed exceptionally well, and delivered UPRIGHT! I can't say enough about White Flower Farm! I look forward to purchasing more from them!!♥️♥️ |
By Jerrytheplater on May 6, 2024 9:42 PM, concerning Mid-Atlantic Carnivorous Plant Society: I have been a member of the Mid-Atlantic Carnivorous Plant Society since it was formed. And I have gained a lot of knowledge through it. I have attended some of the field trips and auctions and all were worth it. Now, members can gather on Zoom meetings to hear a speaker on various CP related topics. It is well worth the dues to join MACPS. In person meetings do take place in various locations. A meal is provided at these meetings usually. |
By ebrinner on Apr 29, 2024 8:22 AM, concerning Woodlanders Inc.: My plants arrived with yellow leaves, dying. 3 Viburnum, 1 citrus. I emailed photos twice, Woodlander does not respond. What is the point if people's real experiences aren't printed here. |
By pepper23 on Apr 21, 2024 4:07 PM, concerning Grabers Greenhouse: I can't say enough about this place. Huge selection of plants and great prices. Service is great as well. Always go out of the way to take care of their customers. They are always on my stop by list when in the area during the season. |
By pepper23 on Apr 21, 2024 3:57 PM, concerning Sow Wild Natives: Tracy, the owner, makes sure to keep everyone up to date on what she has in stock and is always willing to talk gardening with customers. This business is in her backyard and gets more popular every year. |
By Jerrytheplater on Apr 10, 2024 9:43 PM, concerning Miles' To Go: I have been ordering from Miles' To Go for at least 15 years, if not more. I have always been happy with the plants I've received. They are high quality plants. His prices are more than fair. I can't praise his growing skills enough. |
By Jerrytheplater on Apr 10, 2024 9:36 PM, concerning Paradise Found Nursery: I have ordered from Paradise Found Nursery twice. I was looking for Malagasy Caudiciform Euphorbia and they have them! I ended up speaking with the owner and found out they grow their Euphorbias in large beds on the tables and rely on ants to pollinate the plants. They don't collect the seed either. They let it scatter in the beds and grow on its own. They harvest the plants to sell when they are large enough. Obviously, these beds are spaced far enough apart to maintain purity in the plants. |
By Jerrytheplater on Apr 5, 2024 10:26 PM, concerning Waterford Gardens: Waterford Gardens originally was Wm. Tricker and Son and opened in 1895. I went there as a boy in the 1960's. When Mr. Schmidlin retired in the 1980's, it was sold and became Waterford Gardens. I still go there now. They sell quality plants of all types. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend them. They will repot your plants for a fee. They have a crew that will build a pond for you and even maintain it, for a fee. I will really be sad if they ever close. |
By BlueRidgeGardener23 on Mar 16, 2024 7:57 AM, concerning Winterberry Iris Gardens: Across six years, I've ordered many irises. All came trimmed, labeled and healthy - some of the best irises I've gotten, especially the rebloomers. In all orders, I worked with Ginny Spoon who was courteous, accommodating and fantastic. |
By DeweyRooter on Feb 15, 2024 3:46 AM, concerning Simonton Bridge Daylily Farm: Simonton Bridge has a huge inventory. I have found several cultivars I couldn't find anywhere else. The owner, Joann Stewart, is a very knowledgeable daylily person and is extremely helpful and friendly. She answers email promptly and has gone out of her way to mail plants at a time convenient for me. |
By adknative on Dec 29, 2023 7:16 AM, concerning Bootstrap Farmer: I discovered Bootstrap Farmer a few years ago, almost by accident. I was looking for better seed starter trays, instead of buying more of the cheap trays that crack so easily or break and dump loads of pots when you try to pick them up. A google search brought up their site. |
By adknative on Dec 29, 2023 6:54 AM, concerning Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses, Inc.: I have purchased from Lyndon Lyon's Greenhouses multiple times and will attest to their healthy and beautiful African violets! |
By rgardendesign on Dec 12, 2023 7:19 PM, concerning Arid Lands Greenhouses: While living in AZ for the longest time this place has and was and will always be my go to place. One of the best selection and collections I have ever seen for sale in my life. This place will blow your mind! |
By rgardendesign on Dec 12, 2023 7:11 PM, concerning Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co.: This is a must, I repeat...… this is a must! awesome selection and great harvest and reasonably priced too. |
By rgardendesign on Dec 12, 2023 7:06 PM, concerning Everwilde Farms, Inc.: I love this company's seed selection and the amount of seed you get based on species is amazing. I also have had really good germination rates from these guys and very friendly too. |
