Hello everyone. I recently moved to West Virginia and I'm amazed at the variety of wildflowers that continue to bloom. I was able to ID many using the internet but I can't find anything on this one. It is growing on the hillside behind my house. Does it look familiar?

Clearly an iris. Whether wild/ native or just feral, I don't know.
Plant it and they will come.

Thanks everyone. That explains why I couldn't find it on wildflower ID websites.

I can't provide you with a name but that looks like the same iris I see growing all over the area in Virginia where a lot of my family live. I don't know if they're wild but I see them growing in fields and along the roads. They might be from old homesteads. My uncle sent me a few dozen 6-8 years ago. I divided them a couple years ago and probably have over 200 now. Too bad they don't come in different colors but you can't beat the price. LOL

BanaJovy's iris looks like a purple version of the yellow flags that grow all over my area.

Psudan's iris looks like the old bearded iris growing on all the old homesteads.

I don't think they're the same iris.

I useta live where it was wet, and I'd collect and plant the seed... Got amazing colour drift...

Sure didn't last long. This morning it looks wilted but there are a couple dozen yet to bloom. Yesterday I took one of the pods that was probably last years plant and opened it. It looked like seeds inside so I planted them in a flower pot.

There are some interesting plants on that part of the hillside where it is in plain view of the kitchen window. Could be some previous owner wanted something nice to look at while working at the kitchen sink.

Photo of hillside from kitchen window. You can see the steps I carved into the bank so I can check out the rest of the property. It is a lot steeper than the picture shows.

Maybe your iris has escaped from a neighboring garden? This photo is a siberian iris from my yard. The two seem very similar.

You're welcome! I've been saying for years that if we could communicate with squirrels, nobody would ever go hungry again and we would all have gorgeous gardens. One of my fav plantasies? Is that the plural when one mashes plant and fantasy into a single word? It seems to be waiting to be invented. LOL!!

Brownsville PA.
There are lots of old homesteads in WV and flags were very popular.
Easy to grow and as you can see, not at all fussy.
