Thread OP
Amherst mass
What should I do to cut down on this. I have primula, foxgloves, goats beard. Should I be concerned about moss?

I would love it if moss grew in my garden. Is it swallowing your plants? You can always pull a little up around the plants.

I would love to have moss too! I get beautiful little patches of it sometimes but as soon as pill bugs find it, they eat it. It would have to be very big moss to bother the plants you mentioned.

Add me to the list of people that likes moss.

Suspect that you have a very moist garden...

Moss has a niche where it will grow, and if the needs aren't met, it doesn't grow.

If your garden is growing a healthy crop of moss, I'm surprised the other plants are able to thrive...
Although... primula and goat's beard do like it wet....

Please post pictures!

Yes it is an indication of a damp environment. Many plants will thrive in this situation and I don't think the moss is likely to be a problem. I love it too. Trying to eradicate it from an environment in which it thrives is likely to be a waste of time.

I have moss that more or less covers a damp shady corner area where I have mainly foxglove, bleeding hearts (Dicentra), ferns and Brunnera planted and all of those plants seem perfectly happy (the foxglove self-sows like crazy); hosta also grew there until the deer ate it all. I did try to eliminate the moss for a while, but, as kniphofia said, it turned out to be a waste of time and effort.
