Plant requirements during photosynthesis
Light
Gardeners know that plants need light. As we have just learned, all green
plants require light to perform photosynthesis, the process by which they
manufacture their food in the form of carbohydrates. Some plants can withstand
quite shady conditions while others require direct sunlight, but all need
at least some light. In addition to fueling photosynthesis, the quantity
and quality of light trigger other plant responses, such as flowering and
dormancy.
